Introducing the PMAG 30 M3

Posted on February 23, 2013

Magpul is pleased to announce the latest additions to the PMAG family: the PMAG 30 M3 and PMAG 30 M3 MagLevel. Like its predecessors, the PMAG 30 M3 is a lightweight 5.56 x 45 NATO / .223 Remington 30-round polymer magazine for the AR15/M16 platform, but with a number of new features which improve its durability, compatibility, and overall performance for the most demanding professional shooters. By combining the knowledge gained from years of PMAG production, extensive research and development of materials and manufacturing processes, and incorporating feedback from a broad range of end-users, the PMAG 30 M3 pushes the envelope of magazine performance one step further.

The PMAG 30 M3 features a corrosion-resistant stainless steel spring, four-way anti-tilt follower, pop-off Impact/Dust Cover that snaps onto the floorplate when not in use, and easy tool-less disassembly for cleaning and maintenance. Low-profile ribs and aggressive front and rear texture provide positive control of the magazine while helping ensure compatibility with common double and triple magazine pouches. The easy to disassemble standard flared floorplate provides drop protection and aids extraction from magazine pouches, but can be replaced by a PMAG Ranger Plate for improved handling, or the new M3 Slim-line floor plate to minimize bulk (not included). A paint pen dot matrix (click here for marking guide) has been added to the bottom panel of the magazine body for easy marking by the end user for magazine identification.

Modified internal and external geometry provides greater compatibility and function with a wide range of non-AR15/M16 platform weapons. A re-designed bolt catch notch in the rear of the magazine allows increased bolt catch clearance, while an over-travel stop on the spine helps ensure the PMAG 30 M3 will not over-insert on compatible weapons, including the AR15/M16, HK 416, M27 IAR, British SA-80, FN SCAR MK 16/16S, and others. In addition to the expanded feature set and compatibility, the PMAG 30 M3 incorporates new material technology and manufacturing processes that have been engineered to exceed rigorous military performance specifications. By improving strength and durability in critical areas, the PMAG 30 M3 increases overall reliability and lifespan, while decreasing total lifecycle cost.

MSRP To Be Announced, Shipping Spring 2012.

The MagLink 30 is a coupler for PMAG 30 and PMAG 30 M3 magazines which allows the user to attach two magazines together for more efficient speed reloads, and to keep an additional 30 rounds of ammunition accessible on the weapon at all times. The MagLink 30 features a two-piece bolt on design, and durable, lightweight reinforced polymer construction. Note: the MagLink 30 is not compatible with the first generation PMAG 30, PMAG 20, EMAG, PMAG 30G, or PMAG 20LR.

MSRP $17.95, Shipping Spring 2012.

Designed to reduce bulk and enhance compatibility with double and triple magazine pouches, the PMAG 30 M3 Slim-Line Floorplate replaces the standard flared floorplate on all PMAG 30 M3 variants. The Slim-Line Floorplate reduces PMAG thickness by approximately 1/8" per magazine, and requires use of Impact/Dust Cover or other improvised tool for disassembly. Note: Slim-Line Floorplates are only compatible with PMAG 30 M3 variants, and will not fit other current production or legacy PMAG products.

MSRP $4.95 | 3 pack, shipping Spring 2012

PMAG 30 AR/M4 GEN M3

Posted on February 22, 2013

The PMAG 30 GEN M3 is a polymer magazine for AR15/M4 compatible firearms with an expanded feature set and compatibility compared to our earlier PMAGs.  Advances in material technology and manufacturing processes help to make this the most reliable and durable PMAG to date.

Here at Magpul, when we make a product, we have a hard time leaving it alone.  We continue to test, to collect feedback from end-users, and to find ways to improve.  The original PMAG benefitted from these efforts with the MREV improvements in 2009.  Since then, we’ve continued the quest for constant evolution.  With millions of magazines in worldwide military service and a self-critical eye in our engineering department, the M3 project started in 2011.  Over a full year later, we are finally ready to show our hand.

Polymer technology is constantly advancing, and we are continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible with new materials, manufacturing methods, and quality control.  What we’ve arrived at with the GEN M3 is a magazine that is significantly stronger in all areas.  Performance in feed lip impact, spine strength, side impact, cold and hot weather impacts, and crush testing have all improved significantly over previous generations—to the point that we think you’ll find the results impressive, to say the least.  You’ll also see a new, innovative window material with superior chemical resistance and durability properties.  We will be releasing videos of some of the testing during the coming weeks, so you can see for yourself what the new GEN M3 is capable of.

The external geometry of the GEN M3 is slightly different than the previous generation of PMAG.  In order to have compatibility with the widest variety of firearms platforms, the front stop on the magazine has been relocated for full compatibility with the HK 416/IAR/M27 and the SA-80.  A new, enhanced over-insertion stop has been added to the rear spine of the magazine.  This new stop is compatible with nearly all magazine well geometries and provides support for rough handling of the loaded firearm as well as allowing extremely aggressive magazine changes with no danger of malfunctions or damage caused by over-insertion.  Our increases in material technology and manufacturing have also permitted gains in strength while allowing narrower external dimensions, for greater drop-free compatibility with magazine wells on the tighter side of the tolerance range.

Internal geometry received an update as well.  Proven constant curve geometry is combined with a new, low-friction, four-way anti-tilt follower designed to improve on our already excellent adverse conditions functioning, especially in dust or grit environments, thanks to generous clearances.  The new follower color is gray, to distinguish it from previous follower generations.

There are numerous other improvements and added features.  First, the magazine catch area is reinforced both for extra strength and for improved function with a wider range of magazine catch tolerances.  In keeping with the quest for compatibility, the bolt catch notch has been expanded to be compatible with the FN SCAR while still showing significant strength and durability gains in this critical area.  On the outside, you’ll notice improved texture on both the front and back spines, as well as slightly modified side ribs to enhance handling characteristics when wet, dirty, or when under stress.  The new floor plate design shows significant strength increases over previous designs while being slimmer for easier side-by-side carry and also having features to increase drainage for maritime operations.  In the “nice to have” category, there is a paint pen dot matrix on the bottom sides of each magazine to allow consistent magazine marking that resists wear due to rough handling.  This feature makes magazine marking easier and all but eliminates having to re-mark magazines after friction and solvents have worn your original markings.

All of this talk of improvements, strength, and durability really means nothing if the magazine doesn’t feed, and that is what we are most excited about.  It’s easy to design and build a plastic brick that fits in a magazine well…and much harder to build a true asset to a weapons system that functions flawlessly across a wide spectrum of temperature and condition extremes with various ammunition types, across numerous platforms, extreme cyclic rates, and other variables.  The GEN M3 has exceeded even our own high expectations in reliability, compatibility, and endurance testing.  Tests like 6,000 rounds through a single magazine, dirt/sand/grit testing, drop, crush, and impact testing, temperature extreme testing, extensive field testing…all per applicable military standards, and all demonstrating the performance we demand from the next generation to wear the PMAG name.

We have a series of new developments and additions to the line that will be released soon, so keep an eye on our social media, sign up for our newsletter, and follow this blog for the latest news on what is coming next from honest engineering and American manufacturing.

Weaver redesigned their scopes of Grand Slam for SHOT Show!

Posted on February 20, 2013

We spoke with Tom Weaver at the SHOT Show, and he gave us a preview of their newly redesigned Grand Slam rifle scopes.  To be sure, Weaver is one of those brands that you hear about all the time for their constant improvement.  It is actually surprising that they can find so many things to improve, after considering how their scopes are first of all.

So, what has changed?  Well, much, actually.  The new Grand Slam probes have many internal improvements, but they have also improved the exterior design to make them smoother and sexier.  You can see with new Rings for Weaver Grand Slam, which look great with these expanses, but on many other scopes.  They look great and they have a feeling of fluidity that they cling on anything.

But internal changes are what's going to give you the performance of these new probes of Weaver Grand Slam gain.  The Micro-Trac system has been improved to maintain that quality people expect Weaver, while at the same time making them more reproducible and nearly indestructible.  Tom says in the video, these scopes are almost.  The tracking system was difficult enough and had few areas where problems could occur, but these tiny-small areas where the problems occurred before have been strengthened.

You will always get large glass and a worn well constructed, but the newly upgraded Micro-Trak system will give you incredibly precise elevation and windage adjustments, while being incredibly difficult as well!  Take a look at the shooting Weaver see the video above for more information!

What challenges a warrior for the maximum Warrior Wear?

Posted on February 20, 2013

Maxim magazine runs a really cool contest, Warrior said Maximum.  I can not tell you how much I wish that I could participate.  I have no doubt that I could get Crémé by professionals they are in competition, but just the chance to learn and develop this kind of combat training would be amazing.  What is the Maximum of warrior?  Basically, it's a challenge for 10 weeks with 10 different warriors.  They then face based fights, a different tests each week.  These challenges test different parts of military training and expertise.

Week cover WADI patrol.  The Warriors are sent in a lightweight tactical vehicle with the mission to retrieve a downed pilot.  The driver is just a model, but the scenario is realistic.  These guys have to fight in the flashbang, past the improvised explosive, smoke grenades and they aims to neutralize.  It's really intense, and this is the first week only!  These challenges get more intense, while the Maximum Warrior competitors are more physical challenges requiring more all their cunning and all their forces more.  I don't want to steal all the thunder of the Maximum Warrior, so definitely go to their site to watch the episodes for the first three weeks.  Honestly, I love that I work for OpticsPlanet, because I just spent the last 15-20 minutes enjoying every second of the Maximum Warrior challenge!

Go to the Maximum Warrior site to see videos of great.  I want to share with you directly are videos of "what a warrior"door"of the Maximum Warrior.  They are really cool.  They are hosted by Karl Erickson, who hosts the show.  This guy knows his stuff.  We actually met him at the SHOT Show.  Erickson retired from the Army Special Forces, and it is a serious guy.  I am happy to make him part of our Armed Forces.  In the video above, it takes you through some of the gear are true warriors.  It begins with the armor of body and shows where soldiers in various pockets for maximum efficiency.  It's cool to see how he explains the side for the ballistic plates in body armor.  I knew that the plates could take shots a couple, but they won't hold forever.  I guess they can take about 10 shots.  I can't imagine being shot ten times, but I'd be happy to have one is able to take multiple injections.

But this is what it packs on this armor that really interested me.  Erickson rail covers magazines (it is no coincidence that Erickson is located in the front of a BLACKHAWK! banner, because they are a ton of great warriors gear for real, then when you need real tactical gear they are the brand perfect to start with.) and that puts it in the rest of his pockets.  This is not the basic equipment.  Real soldiers not to use pouches for transport sweets (I am not admitting that I used a bag for this), they have gear explosive ordnance disposal and additional magazines.

This type of gear is not so good for the soldiers.  I know that the hunters who swear only by BLACKHAWK!, and if you take the pragmatic approach that has the army, you are sure to have more success.  You may want to call game rather than the explosive ordnance disposal gear, but extra mags at your fingertips is always going to help (or for your shotgun shells, etc.).  Don't forget to check out the video above and discover a few teaser photos below to learn more about the contest and see this as a Warrior is for Maximum Warrior challenge!

The riflescope Barska Contour of SHOT Show 2013!

Posted on February 20, 2013

Barska Contour riflescope has a pretty nice range looking for SHOT Show.  It was specifically designed to operate avec.22 rifles.  Personally, I am a big fan of 22 s.  Other than a few BB guns when I was little, the first gun I ever shot was a 22 and I have always had a place in my heart for them (especially with the price of Ammo these days!).  The Contour is perfect for a day at the beach.  3-9 X 42 rifle Contour (which is in stock that I write, by the way!), has three settings of different grains of bullet, the locking turrets and a set very nice quality of construction, which is really amazing, considering the low price!  I think it is better if you take a look at this great new scope and whereas it slaps on your favorite carabine.22!  The Barska Contour of SHOT Show rifle scope surprised!

MFT SHOT Show Gear-handguards, Rail brackets, handles & more!

Posted on February 20, 2013

I was a big fan of MFT for awhile.  Accessories of the firearm they are always super high quality and lots of features.  But my main reason for liking them, is that their equipment is no nonsense.  As their name indicates, this is First and FOREMOST.  I like that.  I can't have a serious tactical mission, but when I'm at the beach or hunting I have goals and I want gear that will help me achieve these goals.  Some of the new gear from Mission first tactical SHOT Show me pretty excited on their upcoming launches.

We spoke with Jerry to MFT, and he unveiled a new Drop-in Quick Release hand guard which is absolutely beautiful and is very easily (and of course very quickly).  Rail mounting goes all the way back to the receiver and should really give you a nice bit of extra rail space when equipped.

They also have a dark color scorched earth for the MFT react Magwell Grip and nice low profile BMS minimalist Stock.  I don't want to keep tell you how they all look as you can see for yourself in the video above!  I suggest all heart watch our Video of MFT SHOT Show and stay tuned to GearExpert for even more to come!

BLACKHAWK GripBreak cases - new leather & Nylon of SHOT Show cases!

Posted on February 20, 2013

I've already written a little BLACKHAWK!'gear SHOT s Show, but one point that I did not really mention is their new Case GripBreak.  The video above addresses this lack of info.  This is a cool new case that is actually very versatile.  You don't see often as much versatility in a case, especially one made to BLACKHAWK!'s quality standards.  The specific standard is the SERPA.  Millions of these cases have been sold since they debuted in 2004, and people like this system.  It is easy to use, reliable and incredible retention.

But how can you beat the look of a leather case?  Simple answer: you can't.  You can't beat a leather of quality for its level of comfort and classic style, but there are a lot of military and professionals act today who want leather watch, but the style SERPA retention.  This is where that comes GripBreak .  You incredible retention, but at the same time, you will quickly attract.  The next time that you are right and draw your weapon you'll really appreciate it.

Another thing that is great about this new line is its versatility.  The GripBreak has a design short, which means that you can use the same case with more than one firearm.  You can use weapons compact handguns, 9 mm, 40 caliber and with the same case even more!  This is not something you see very often of a case like this.

When you want the look of leather but the retention and quickly a SERPA, draw the BLACKHAWK! GripBreak the case is made for you!
